北师港浸大全人教育环境发展中心

United International College (UIC), situated in Zhuhai and jointly founded by Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), is the first full-scale cooperation in higher education between the Mainland and Hong Kong. Its charter has been approved by the Ministry of Education with full support from local authorities.

UIC shoulders the historical mission of advancing the internationalisation of Chinese higher education and taking the lead in implementing liberal arts education in China. Since its first enrollment in 2005, UIC has grown into an international institution with innovative educational approaches.

Whole Person Education Office

Whole Person Education (WPE), also called holistic education, is concerned with the growth of a person’s intellectual, moral, physical, social, emotional, artistic, and spiritual potential. Educational goals include character formation, broad social knowledge and skills, ability to think independently and solve personal problems, high moral and social consciousness.

The Whole Person Education Office (WPEO) was set up in July 2006 to develop the UIC Whole Person Education Program, which comprises a set of experiential learning modules. The WPE modules are offered in form of curricular courses, facilitated by the WPEO centres. In addition, summer and winter programs, extra-curricular activities and clubs are available to students to deepen their learning experience.

Currently six centres are established under the WPEO: Adventure Education Centre(AEC), Emotional Intelligence Development Centre (EIDC), Arts and Culture Development Centre (ACDC), Voluntary Service Development Centre (VSDC), Environmental Development Centre (EDC), Physical Education Centre (PEC).


Environmental Development Centre (EDC)

EDC offers Environmental Awareness courses and summer programs, and Nature Experience Education (NEE) activities, with commitment to environmental education, environmental study and community participation. In addition the centre organises campus events, such as Earth Day celebrations and tree planting day.

Objectives:

-to develop students’ understanding of environmental problems and social responsibility to protect the environment
-to promote the development of a sustainable campus
-to develop partnerships with local and international environmental organisations
